Artist Bio

Timothy Griffith was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1958, and began painting in 1968. In the 1980’s briefly attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2020. He lived in the St. Louis area from 1958 until 2015, at which time he moved to Peoria Illinois. In Peoria, he attended Illinois Central College for his freshman and sophomore years. He moved to Milwaukee Wisconsin in 2018 to complete his degree at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, graduating late in October 2020 (COVID-19-delayed). From Milwaukee, he moved to the North-Central Illinois area because of his active participation in the art events from Chicago, through Crystal Lake and Woodstock, to Rockford and Freeport.

Now in his 57th year of making art, Tim’s work has been exhibited in New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, Laguna Beach, CA, Bethlehem, PA, Grand Rapids, MI, St. Louis, MO, and many other locations throughout the United States.

Tim works daily on his art, web development of his portfolio and blog sites, and participates in more than 8 different community arts, governmental arts councils, art museums, and artist organizations both regionally and nationwide.

My artwork is an extremely well-crafted product, produced from long-lasting, high-quality materials. Unique in the world of painters, I use gallery-wrapped canvases and continue the composition to the sides and slightly around to the back. I call my method ‘Painting to the wall.’ The finished product is aesthetically pleasing without a frame- visually complete from all viewpoints.
